The 2018 Art and Design Conference will focus on supporting teachers to get prepared for 2018/19. The aim of the day is that each delegate will have created a new scheme of work, ready for the new academic year. The conference programme is designed to enthuse and excite leaders, making the most of the amazing resources and expertise available from Leeds Arts University and maximising on the opportunity for delegates to learn from one another.
We are delighted to welcome Susan Coles as our keynote. Susan is an NSEAD registered art consultant with a considerable track record in the world of art education. She is a member of national advisory/consultation groups and has previously delivered keynote speeches at the NSEAD National Conference and the International Journal of Art and Design Conference to name but a few.
Each delegate will be given a 'studio booth' to display their work and planning as it develops throughout the day. The practical skills development sessions will take place in the top floor studios of the Vernon Street site of Leeds Arts University. They will include: Ceramics; Photograms/Cyanotype; Smart phone animation; Printmaking without a press and Heat press on textiles/aluminium. To enable delegates to get the most out of the conference, the practical skills sessions will not be prebooked. This is to enable the delegates to access a number of sessions, to be able to be responsive to the content in a flexible and dynamic way and to share resources and expertise.
Please note for health and safety reasons please wear closed footwear, and whilst aprons will be provided, delegates are advised to wear sensible clothing and be prepared for a hands on sessions using materials that could transfer onto clothing.
Attending the conference will support subject leaders and teachers to:
- share and build on effective local practice;
- focus on raising standards for all students and closing the achievement gap;
- explore new techniques and skills to use in the classroom to engage and motivate all learners;
- develop an understanding of progression routes and opportunities through art.
