Free resource for Early Years - activites to do at home for Under 5's

This is a great FREE starting point for schools, nurseries and childminders who are looking for resources for Early Years children to do at home if they have to isolate and should save your teachers some time! It is also an excellent resource, full of fun simple ideas to continue using to help develop parental engagement further and home learning once we all get back to 'normal'!!

As most schools are preparing for the likely closure of schools in the coming weeks/ months, we would like ask you to share the Free 50 Things to Do Before You're 5 App with families in schools who have young children.

This resource was initially developed by St Edmunds Nursery School in Bradford and has been developed for use in Leeds by a range of professionals including 0-5 Learning Improvement, Speech and Language and Library Services colleagues alongside families.

The App has 50 Low Cost or No Cost FUN simple activities for families to do which all help to promote development, bonding and speech and communication skills in particular.

Each activity on the App has a drop down box informing families why the activities are important for development, ideas of how to do the activities, words to use, books to share and further research and information linked to each activity should they wish to look further into it.

Most of the activities can be done at home so this should be a helpful resource for families over the coming few weeks/months! There are a few activities that are more seasonal, but most can be done in some way or other at home. Families can also upload and keep photos and videos on the App to keep their memories in one place.

The App can be downloaded for FREE from the Apple or Google Store by searching for '50Things To Do Before You're Five'. Once the app has been downloaded families can choose which region they want to look at as there are versions of the App for most West Yorkshire areas now and also East Sussex - these bespoke versions will be more relevant once we are all allowed to get out and about properly again as there are link to local places to visits and we are looking at introducing event notifications in the not too distant future too!!

We have attached a flier for you to share with families and also an A4 Poster to print off and give to families - this is particularly great for families who may not have internet or smartphone access and is also good for families to stick up at home as it has all the activities on it with an area to tick off once the activity has been completed.

All the activities can also be found at https://leeds.50thingstodo.org/app/os

We hope you find the App helpful and most importantly FUN!
